Conference in session
Meeting with Danang Tourism Board (DTB). Yay! Today we will establish our scope of work with DTB and decide our OITP assignments. The main purpose for our trip. A short walk took us to the DTB office and we were warmly welcomed - A conference and the customary exchange of greetings. We caught a short video of the tourist sights in Danang and the International fireworks competition to be held on 29th March. The main catch were the beaches and nearby cultural and heritage towns like Hue and Hoi An. We gave a short presentation of a panorama view taken at the Imperial palace in Hue – DTB seemed quite impressed. Our project would serve as an invaluable took to captivate tourists by giving them a sample of Danang’s attractions available online.
Our scope of work would cover the mapping of…..
1. Marble mountain (Half hour south of Danang)
2. Monkey mountain (Northern tip of Danang)
3. Cultural and heritage buildings to be confirmed.
The Japanese Museum (Chan museum) could be one of them. To be honest, I don’t know why this particular museum would be so important given the period of Japanese influence in this country BUT we will find out in time.
After the meeting we continued our panorama training, testing and troubleshooting until the evening when we had an interview with DTU’s media team. Team SP was represented by Shashni and Gary. We also found out a filming crew would be attached to us on our mapping project. A trip to the world renowned Danang beach was warranted to complete our last round of testing and fine tuning of our equipment and skills. Apparently photo stitching of the endless beaches, continuous surfs and blue skies were the highest standards and test of our skills (Mr Foo’s advise) which we totally aced. We definitely couldn’t let this fine opportunity pass by so we seized it and spent the remaining evening with team bonding activities… Wading in the sea, playing catching, digging holes, playing catch with our used coconuts since we didn’t have a ball and sitting together exchanging stories about ourselves and school. Team building, I would say, is most essential since not everyone knew each other and our trust and bonds would be tested in our upcoming project tomorrow….
